How to Style a Leather Jacket 3 Ways

Can you believe it’s fall? I can’t believe how quickly summer flew by. I’m not going to lie when I say I’m excited about the fall fashion. Scarves, boots, big cozy sweaters and jackets, I’m obsessed. Speaking of jackets, one of my favorite staple pieces to wear in the chilly months is a leather jacket. What’s great is that you can dress it up and look like a million bucks, or dress it down and make it casual. There are so many options!

Some people are intimidated by leather jackets and don’t know how to style them. I get it, some leather jackets make it look like you’re in a biker gang lol. It’s all about finding one that works for you and YOUR body.

The leather jacket I have is black and from Forever 21. It has some detailing but not overwhelming. It’s shorter but not too short. I can throw it over ANYTHING. It’s also super budget friendly. I find I like to get a new one every couple years so investing in a super expensive leather jacket isn’t worth it to me. I also always purchase faux leather as opposed to real leather.

Here are three different ways I’ve styled my leather jacket:

Dressing it up

One of my favorite all time looks is “all black everything”. When I’m going out with girlfriends or having date night with Mason and I need something cute to wear in a pinch, I wear all black with my black leather jacket on top. Something about that look just instantly makes you look SPICY! And bonus, it’s so slimming!! Here I have it paired with my black distressed jeans, booties, and a body suit. Let me tell you girls, this is a KILLER combo. I’m going to have to do another post about my love of bodysuits. Body suits tucked into high waisted pants are killlerrr.

Having the black pants and black heels gives the illusion of elongated legs (not that I have any trouble in the height department lol). But if you’re wanting to look taller, this is something you should definitely try.

This particular body suit is from Joe Fresh (aka Superstore) CAN YOU BELIEVE IT. Who knew Superstore would have babe’in body suits lol. These booties are from Ardene and the pants are American Eagle.

Over a dress

Another combo I love is throwing my leather jacket over a dress. What’s great is that it’ll work with any kind of dress. In this particular look here, I’m wearing this super cute fringe dress from Bia Boro.

I threw on my favorite black combat boots from The Bay to complete this look.

Something about the combo of a feminine girly dress with rugged boots and leather jacket I just LOVE. I’m all about the contrast.

Dressing it Down

This last look is equally loved. What’s great about a leather jacket is that you can also dress it down and make it casual. I love throwing a leather jacket over a hoodie and have the hood popped out. To make it even more relaxed, throwing a beanie on really gives it that chill/hippy vibe.

To finish the look, leggings work great with any kind of sneaker. These leggings are Sweet Legs and my shoes are from Old Navy.

This hoodie from this look is from Zara and the beanie is from a local store in Kelowna that doesn’t exist anymore, but you can pick up a beanie anywhere!

There you have it. How easy was that? I guarantee you that you have all these pieces already in your wardrobe, but now you know how to style it. Having a leather jacket saves me so if you don’t have one, you should get one too.

Enjoy your shopping!
