Hashtag Strategies for Instagram
Hello StuffwithSvet readers!
Changing it up this week with some Instagram/business tips! Let’s talk hashtags!
Hashtags are tricky because Instagram changes all the time and we gotta keep up with it! With hashtags, the goal is for your post to be easily found and on the top of the explore feed so that other people can discover you. Engagement is a huge part of Instagram’s algorithm these days so finding the right hashtags are essential. It is important to research to find out which hashtags are working for you and what hashtags to use in your area.
There are three different sizes of hashtags:
-small hashtags: 0-250k posts
-medium hashtags: 250k-1M posts
-big hashtags: 1M-5M+ posts
You are allowed to have up to 30 hashtags in a single post. To maximize your hashtag use, it depends on your following size:
-if you have 0-1k followers: use 20 small and 10 medium
-if you have 1-10k followers: use 20 small, 8 medium, and 2 big
-if you have 10-50k followers: use 15 small, 10 medium, and 5 big
-if you have 50-100k+ followers: use 10 small, 15 medium, and 5 big
Another way to look at it is to use the staircase hashtag technique:
-approximately a third of your hashtags in hugely popular hashtag pools
-approximately a third of your hashtags in medium size hashtag pools
-approximately a third or your hashtags that are easier to rank for and in your local market
My personal favorite type of hashtag to use are geographical hashtags. Find the hashtags for the city you’re in or else, the city you are trying to target. For example, I will use #explorekelowna. You want your hashtags specific to the area you are trying to service.
Hope this gives you some helpful tips!
