Tips to Stay Active + Moving As You’re Progressing into Fall
Ah, everyone loves this topic.
For the month of June, I was away every weekend. I attended four weddings this whole summer on top of work, family gatherings, and other scheduled events. Where the heck do I have time to stay fit? Lol.
As much as I love summer time, it slowly creeps up on me how much I ate and drank and how little I worked out. Now that Fall is approaching, there are even more temptations with pumpkin spice lattes and Halloween candy calling my name. So what do I do to stay physically active? My theory is to always stay MOVING. Eat garlic truffle fries, drink a bellini (or 3), do it all! But stay moving.
For those of you that don’t know, I don’t own a gym pass. I used to go to the gym growing up as I was incredibly active with being on a volleyball scholarship, playing sports, and just wanting to be fit in general. However, I tend to get bored quickly and would find myself not going. I mean, who wants to go run on a tread mill for 30 minutes while staring at a wall? Uhhh, not me.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with going to the gym. If you can get your butt in the gym five days a week and love it, props to you! It’s just personally not for me. Instead, I stay active by doing other activities.
One tip I recommend is to hike.
In Kelowna, there are sooo many beautiful hikes. And the bonus part is that many of them lead to a great view of the lake or end with a stunning waterfall. Nothing is better than ending a difficult hike with something rewarding. My favs are Pincushion, Knox, and Fintry Falls.
Another tip I recommend is to bike.
Kelowna recently came out with a bike share this year which I think is an AMAZING idea. If you’re a Kelowna resident, you’ve probably noticed these bikes scattered around town as they’re a bright orange color. I love biking as it’s a fun activity plus you’re getting exercise at the same time. However, bikes are expensive and not everybody has the leisure of owning one. Have you seen those cute cruiser bikes? Those things don’t come cheap. Now with this bike share, Kelowna residents have the option of renting bikes through the convenience of an app. Now you have no excuse 😛
Water activities!
Yes, you heard me. Paddle boarding, kayaking, you name it. Now I know the summer weather is ending, but it is still perfect weather to go for a nice kayak. Kayaking is great for upper body strength and the cutest date idea. Win-win!!!
Beach volleyball.
Okay, so I know what you’re going to say. “I’m not coordinated to play.” Yes, I realize volleyball is a skilled sport. However, you don’t need to be good. Grab a couple pals and head down to the beach and rally back and forth for fun. Volleyball is such a social sport plus you’re getting physical activity in at the same time.
Last but not least. ALWAYS TAKE THE STAIRS.
This is my golden rule. I used to work downtown and have to park my car in a parkade, I never took the elevator. If I’m going to a friend’s apartment, I hustle up the stairs. There is no excuse for why you can’t take the stairs unless you’re physically incapable.
And there you have it. Doesn’t seem like a lot hey? These are just some of my primary ways that I personally stay active, but we are all unique. There is no formula that works for everyone. I hope my ideas can help you! How do you stay active?
