Top Ways to Prevent From Getting the Flu This Winter

It’s that time of year – FLU SEASON. Since the temperature has dropped, I’ve been noticing everybody has started to sniffle.

Last week was Halloween and I think I had a little too much fun as I woke up the Monday morning all stuffed up with a cold. I typically don’t get sick easily, if anything I just get run down.

To me, health is more dependent on habits and nutrition than on medicine. At the end of the day, what you put in your body is the best and safest form of medicine.

Here are some tips to prevent from getting a cold this flu season:

1. Gut Health

Your gut flora is a big part of your immune system. To help protect your gut, cut back on processed foods and sugar. Your gut makes up millions of bacteria so eating foods containing probiotics will keep it healthy.

2. Vitamins D + C

Being deficient in these vitamins are definitely contributors to getting a cold. Lacking makes you more susceptible to colds even more so during winter months.

Obviously in the winter we don’t have the luxury of getting direct sun exposure to soak up Vitamin D, but taking it in the form of a supplement will help protect you.

You’ve probably heard once or twice that Vitamin C makes everything better. It doesn’t make everythinggg better but it is an antioxidant. I’ve been taking Vitamin C in the form of vitamins ever since I can remember – thankfully they’re super tasty. If you don’t know where to get vitamins from, I get mine from Nature’s Fare.

3. Oregano Oil + Fish Oils

I try take oregano oil droplets almost every day. The oil is spicy tasting in your mouth on its own so be sure to gargle some water afterwards. Fish oils are also super good for you as they contain omega-3 fatty acids.

4. Avoid immune zappers

I.e. Too much alcohol. I know during the holiday season there’s baileys and festive cocktail drinks, but too much brings your immune system down. Extra emotional stress can also make you more susceptible.

5. Sleep!!

This is so overrated. Not getting enough z’s at night puts your body more at risk. Make sure you are getting enough rest.

Don’t wait before it’s too late. Health is wealth!!! Take initiative and PREVENT your body from getting sick.

Hope this helps 🙂
