Why it’s so important to live alone at least once in your life

why is it important to live independently

Why it’s so important to live alone at some point in your life:

If you’ve been following along stories, you would’ve seen I moved into my own apartment, alone! For the last three years, I had lived in a town house with two girlfriends (which was great). And before that, my parents with my two brothers. I also lived in dorms during university for my first two years out of high school. So I’ve had my fair share of living with roommates.

It’s funny, because I used to be terrified of living on my own. Even when I moved into my town house a few years ago. I remember if my roommates left for a few days, I used to panic and freak out. I had never been alone and have always lived a busy lifestyle in general, so I am constantly around people.

However, I had gotten to the point in my life where I was beginning to crave more me time and was pondering the idea of living on my own. I been thinking about moving out for the last few months but didn’t know if it was something I was actually going to do. I obviously decided to bite the bullet and do it and WOW am I ever glad I did!!

Living on my own feels so freaking healthy you guys. I actually look forward to going home at the end of a work day. As a lot of you know, I’m in a relationship and a lot of you asked why I don’t live together with my boyfriend. I know on paper that would make more sense to most of you but honestly, I have tons of time to live with somebody for the rest of my life. I don’t know if I’ll ever get the opportunity again to live alone and do whatever I want. I also loved that I could decorate my place how I wanted. I’ll be doing a blog post on the space and the decor but basically, I made it super feminine and super “me”. I don’t know if I’ll have that luxury once I’m married and have little kids running around.

Living on your own also gives me more responsibility. Not that I wasn’t responsible before, but it’s completely different being in charge of everything. I totally understand how one can have so many bills now! When I was a youth, I never understood why my parents always had “errands” and “bills” to pay. I get it now!!! Lol. For just one person in a studio apartment, I have a lot of bills!

Lots talk about feasibility. Living in Kelowna is expensive. One of the biggest reasons I wasn’t sure if I would move out on my own was not knowing if I could afford it or not. On average, a one bedroom apartment in Kelowna goes for $1400 plus utilities. That’s a lot! Most of us my age can’t necessarily afford that or don’t earn a wage that will support that. So what do you do? How do you make it work? Do what I did.

Instead of getting a one bedroom, I got a studio apartment! It’s smaller! But the benefit is you can make it cute and live a minimalist life. Who wants to have a bunch of clutter? Not me. I also recommend picking a newer building as opposed to an older one. It’s way nicer having up to date stuff…my town house was quite old and had no AC!

Humans are meant to have interactions and socialize. But we also should learn to have me time and know how to be alone. Ask me two years ago and I wouldn’t have been able to do that. But now living on my own feels like the healthiest thing ever! You will learn so much about yourself and become so independent.
