Surviving Valentine’s Day if you’re Single

It’s a few days away from February 14th, otherwise known as Valentine’s Day.

There is soooo much pressure on Valentine’s Day. To have a boyfriend or girlfriend or any kind of “lover”, to be going on some fancy date, or to be giving/receiving chocolate, flowers, gifts, you name it. It is stressful! And we all know it’s not fun sitting at home alone on the night whether you tell yourself you’re okay with it or not.

But what do you do if you aren’t in a relationship?

I wanted to create an informal guide for you single ladies (or men that are reading this) so that you can have the most extra Valentine’s Day ever. If you are someone that is planning a wild and unique date night with their SO, that is cool too. But this guide is specifically for the single people out there!

Let’s dive in!

First off. Feb 15th everyone. If you don’t know by now, Feb 15th is 1/2 off candy and chocolate so you know you’re going to be heading to the store on Friday because that’s what we’re all here for, the goodies.

In terms of the actual day, the 14th, take advantage of it and make it an excuse to hang out with your girlfriends (hence GALentines day). Eat food, drink wine, get drunk, that’s what makes a great time.

Here are my top suggestions on what to do with your girlfriends:

Wine Tasting – Everybody forgets that you can go wine tasting in the winter season, but honestly, I would argue that’s a better time to go. There’s way less tourists so as a result, you receive more attention from the staff, and there’s ice wine! Uh hello!

My friends and I went to “Sip with Your Sweetheart” this past weekend here in Kelowna. Several wineries in West Kelowna offered complimentary wine and chocolate pairings – it was SO fun. I would highly recommend going. Plus, it’s free!

Chocolate Fondue – Either do it yourself at home or head over to Formosa Cafe. This is a unique little place in Kelowna where you can pick the items you want to dip the chocolate fondue in. Or else if you’re more of a savoury person, The Xchange offers cheese fondue.

Appy night – This is always a go to in my friend group. We all bring different snacks and share them with our favorite bottles of wine. To make it extra special for Valentine’s Day, getting everyone to bring something in the shape of a heart makes it fun!

If you need inspo for yummy appies, these are some of my favorite snacks my friends and I love:

-veggies and hummus

-chips and salsa and guacamole (homemade)

-flat bread pizza

-fruit (berries, pineapple, etc..)

-tzatkai and pita

-potato chips

-brioche cheese and crackers

-dark chocolate

-wine!

There we have it! Claim it’s for “love” and use February 14th as an excuse to have a great time with your girlfriends! I know that’s what I’ll be doing this Thursday.
