Beach days in Kelowna just hit different. With the lake right at our fingertips, it’s the perfect way to cool off, catch up with friends, or spend a slow summer afternoon. Whether you’re looking for a buzzy spot with lots going on or a quiet little cove to escape the crowds, I’ve put together a list of beaches that are always worth the visit.

Right in downtown Kelowna, this beach is buzzing in the best way. It’s super walkable, great for people-watching, and has a floating water park (Kelowna Wibit) in the summer. Enjoy a grassy area to play spikeball or a sandy beach to soak up the sun and join a game of beach volleyball. Ideal if you want to be in the middle of the action. Plus, walk downtown to enjoy a scoop of ice cream.

A local favourite in the Lower Mission, Gyro has it all: soft sand, volleyball courts, a rope swing, and shallow water for swimming. There are even rentals if you’re up for paddleboarding or kayaking.

Tugboat Bay is a sandy beach that offers a quieter spot to relax while still being within easy walking distance of downtown Kelowna. It’s perfect for a laid-back beach day with paddleboarding or just soaking up the sun. Plus, you’ll find food vendors and cafés nearby when hunger strikes.

If you’re looking for a quieter, more relaxed vibe, Strathcona is it. It has lots of shade, a cute little playground, and a calm, peaceful energy that’s great for reading or a low-key picnic. Great for families!

Tucked into the Mission area, this beach feels like a little secret. It’s smaller and more relaxed, with clear water, beautiful views, and just enough space to spread out your towel and chill. The beach is a bit rockier, and the parking lot is on the smaller side, but it’s all part of the charm.

You’ll need to hike a bit to reach this spot, but it’s totally worth it. It is a beautiful, rocky, secluded beach with stunning cliffside views and even some cliff jumping for the adventurous. It is a peaceful getaway that is much quieter than the popular beaches.

This one feels like a mini getaway. It’s quiet, scenic, and has more of a natural park vibe. Think shaded picnic tables, sandy beach areas, rocky edges, and peaceful lake views all around. Plus, there’s a volleyball court and a grassy area for games, making it perfect for a day’s picnic.

A smaller, tucked-away beach that’s easy to miss, but that’s part of the charm. It’s close to Gyro but way less busy, making it a sweet spot for a quick swim or relaxed afternoon.

Great for families or anyone looking for a laid-back vibe. Rotary has soft sand, water rentals, and shaded picnic areas with grass. It’s right between Bluebird and Gyro, so it’s super easy to access too.

No matter what kind of beach day you’re craving, Kelowna has a spot to fit your vibe. Be sure to check out my Guide to Okanagan Lake and things to do on the water while you’re at it! Whether it’s lounging on sandy shores, playing spikeball on the grass, or exploring a quiet cove, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the sunshine and lake views. So pack your sunscreen, grab your favourite snacks, and get ready for some well-deserved downtime by the water. Don’t miss your chance to soak it all in before summer slips away!
