15 Things to Do in Kelowna This Summer

Summer in Kelowna is one of my favourite times of year, with sunny lake days, winery patios, fresh Okanagan fruit, and plenty of ways to get outside.

Whether you’re visiting for the first time or looking for a few new local favourites, I’ve rounded up 15 of my favourite ways to enjoy summer in Kelowna.

A summer in Kelowna wouldn’t be complete without a beach day. Whether you’re looking to relax with a good book, go for a swim, paddleboard, or enjoy a picnic by the water, there are so many beautiful beaches to explore around the city.

Some of my favourites include Gyro Beach, Rotary Beach, Hot Sands Beach, Bertram Creek Regional Park, and Sarsons Beach. Each beach has a slightly different vibe, so depending on what kind of day you’re looking for, there’s something for everyone.

One of the best parts about summer in Kelowna is getting to enjoy wine country right in our backyard. With beautiful vineyards, lake views, and incredible patios, visiting a winery is the perfect summer activity. Whether you’re planning a full wine tour or just stopping by for a tasting, there are so many amazing wineries to choose from.

Some of my favourites include CedarCreek Estate Winery, Mission Hill Family Estate, Quails’ Gate Winery, Frind Estate Winery, and Mount Boucherie Estate Winery.

One of the best parts about summer in Kelowna is getting to enjoy all of the fresh fruit grown right here in the Okanagan. Depending on when you visit, you can find everything from cherries and blueberries to peaches and apricots. Spending an afternoon at a local orchard is such a fun summer activity, whether you’re going with friends, bringing the family, or just looking for something a little different to do.

There’s nothing better than bringing home a box of fresh Okanagan fruit to enjoy throughout the week.

The Myra Canyon Trestles are one of Kelowna’s most iconic outdoor attractions and a must-do during the summer months. The historic railway trail takes you across wooden trestle bridges, through tunnels, and along scenic views of the canyon. You can walk the trail, bring your own bike, or rent one nearby for the full experience.

Kelowna is surrounded by beautiful trails, making summer the perfect time to get outside and explore. Whether you’re looking for an easy walk with lake views or a more challenging hike with a rewarding viewpoint, there are so many amazing trails to choose from. Some local favourites include Knox Mountain, Paul’s Tomb, and Pincushion.

It’s hard to beat a summer day spent on Okanagan Lake. Whether you rent a paddleboard, kayak, or boat, spend the afternoon swimming with friends, or simply relax by the water, there are so many ways to enjoy the lake. Check out my guide to Okanagan Lake here.

If you’re visiting during July or August, I recommend booking rentals ahead of time since this is one of the busiest times of year.

Downtown Kelowna is one of my favourite places to spend a summer afternoon. Take a walk along the waterfront, explore local shops, stop for a coffee or ice cream, visit Kasugai Gardens, or relax at Waterfront Park while taking in the lake views. A Saturday or Wednesday morning at the Kelowna Farmers’ & Crafters’ Market is such a fun summer activity. Grab a coffee, wander through the vendors, and pick up fresh Okanagan fruit, flowers, baked goods, and locally made products. It’s also a great way to support local businesses and discover some of the amazing makers we have here in Kelowna.

If you know me, you know I love a good brunch spot. Luckily, Kelowna has no shortage of amazing places to enjoy brunch, especially during the summer when patios are open. Whether you’re looking for classic eggs Benedict, something sweet, or a creative cocktail to go with your meal, there are so many great options around the city.

While Kelowna may be known for wine, our cider scene is definitely worth exploring too. Local cideries are a great option for a sunny afternoon, offering refreshing drinks, beautiful outdoor spaces, and a more casual atmosphere.

Is there anything better than ending a warm summer day with an ice cream? Kelowna has some great local spots to grab a scoop, whether you’re walking along the waterfront, exploring downtown, or looking for a sweet treat after a day at the beach. It’s the perfect addition to a summer evening spent enjoying everything the city has to offer.

The Okanagan Rail Trail is a beautiful way to enjoy the outdoors without taking on a difficult hike. The trail offers gorgeous lake and mountain views and is perfect for walking, running, biking, or a relaxed afternoon outside. Make a day of it by stopping along the way for a drink or snack. Railside Brewing is a great spot to grab a local beer, while Craft 42 Roasters on Leckie Road is perfect for a coffee or quick pick-me-up. Pack some snacks, bring your camera, and take your time exploring the trail!

One of the best things about summer in Kelowna is ending the day with a beautiful sunset. Whether you’re watching from Knox Mountain, Waterfront Park, Gyro Beach, or another favourite viewpoint, the sunsets over Okanagan Lake never get old. Grab some takeout, bring a blanket, and enjoy one of the simplest (and best) ways to spend a summer evening in Kelowna.
